Frustration and Fireworks

RIFC Fall 2-0 to Sacramento Republic FC

Welp, that sucked! On a beautiful summer night in Rhode Island, RIFC had one of their worst showings in the short history of the club.

It was a familiar sight where injuries, set piece defending, the other team capitalizing on a defensive mistake and zero offensive threat dictated the outcome of the match.

Coach Khano and co. have a lot to figure out here. The team is struggling on both ends of set pieces, there is zero identity in attack and, as Khano pointed out, our impact players are not having the same impact as last season.

The good news is that the team was able to come out of a similar offensive hole last season to score the fourth most goals in the league in 2024. The bad news, I can’t see the path to replicate that right now.

This team has the talent and the desire to do well. Seriously, talk to any player after the match and they are not happy with how things are going. They don’t find these performances acceptable. But they want to figure it out.

Now is the time to support The Tide as they work towards being the team that we would recognize as Rhode Island FC.

Riptide Report

There was only one moment of this match that I found truly enjoyable and it was in the 80th minute when the TV camera panned out and I got a glimpse of Matt Hands cranking away at the Riptide Report. If that’s not dedication to the blogging game, I don’t know what is.

Player Ratings

Timmy put himself through a heroic rewatch of this one and dare I say, he might have been too high on every single one of these ratings. Check ‘em out.

The Tide Talk Show

Matt and I had maybe our longest episode ever going through this match. There’s a lot of feelings coming out of this match, some that Matt and I agree with and others we strongly oppose.

We’ll see you later this week as we turn our attention to Portland ahead of Friday night’s Jaegermeister Cup match.

Up the Tide!
