Goals Galore (Finally)

RIFC thump Tampa 5-0 on fan appreciation night

What a difference a few weeks makes. At the start of August, Rhode Island FC sat in 10th place with just 17 points from their 18 matches. Fast forward a month and a half and Rhode Island FC have moved up to seventh and can clinch a playoff spot next weekend.

It hasn’t been the easiest season. With the team picking up 5 points in 9 league matches from the end of May through the beginning of August and seemingly unaware of where the opposition’s net was, things were looking bleak. The first summer of soccer at Centreville Bank Stadium looked doomed.

We tried to cheer ourselves up with praise about the defense, a new kit and pretzels but it was clear that unless this team could find a way to score goals, the risk of missing out of the playoffs entirely was becoming more real every single week.

Luckily this team has found it’s form at the right time. Undefeated in their last 5 matches with a +9 goal differential, all of a sudden Rhode Island are starting to look like the team that we expected coming into this season.

Is it too little too late? Only time will tell but with two matches remaining, The Tide is rising and it’s time to start believing in this group.

Riptide Report

Anyone who makes Clay Holstad playing in the midfield as a key takeaway in this match has the correct take on this match. Well done Mr. Hands.

Player Ratings

Again, if you make Clay Holstad playing in the midfield your main takeaway from this one, you did it right. Good job Timmy.

The Tide Talk Show

Matt and I had a great time talking through the 5 goal thriller, RIFC’s upswing in form and even got into a bit of conspiracy theory action. A pod for everyone.

Up the Tide!
