In their inaugural season, RIFC will play for the USL Championship title. That is utterly and truly outrageous. In the prematch newsletter I talked a bit about the ride this team has been on. How we’ve watched them learn, grow and become a significantly different team than what we saw six months ago. Man, this match in Charleston was the epitome of that.

We pressed with control. We were clinical when it mattered. We didn’t give them even the smallest mistake to capitalize on. This team has truly become one of the best in the league and are deserving to be in the finals.

And they get what it means. The minute they got their hands on the trophy they were immediately coming over to those of us at the match to celebrate. It’s one of the countless ways we’ve seen the bond between this group and the supporters grow throughout the season and I couldn’t be more proud that these are the men who will go down in history as the first to wear the Rhode Island FC crest no matter what happens on Saturday.
